With a background in humanitarian work in the Middle East, I’ve always felt strongly for the humanitarian cause and developed a deep interest in the relief of human suffering and inter-cultural peace-building.
Working as an Intercultural Consultant and Cultural Orientation Trainer for Syrian refugees at the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Lebanon and as a Volunteer and Mentor to Palestinian Refugees at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in Syria, I experienced first-hand the various mental and emotional challenges a humanitarian worker may experience throughout the course of their assignment.
Feelings of extreme responsibility in the face of human suffering, managing conflicting interests by various stakeholders from different cultural and professional backgrounds as well as managing one’s own expectations, emotions and values in situations of conflict, both internal and external, while coping with security risks, can be a lot to handle for an individual working in the peace-building sector. Feelings of accumulated stress, anxiety, exhaustion, helplessness or hopelessness and an excruciating fear of failure against one’s own or others’ expectations can be overwhelming and cause serious damage to mental health.
To find solutions for these challenges, I went on a long journey of study, self-enquiry and experimentation, in the process of which I trained in Life Coaching, Emotional Intelligence Coaching, as well as Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) and BrainWorking Recursive Therapy® (BWRT®) to unwire unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours:
NLP Master & BWRT Practitioner to help clients identify and overcome mental and emotional stressors by challenging existing perceptions and opening up new ways of thinking, feeling and acting conducive to personal and professional growth and wellbeing
Life- & Emotional Intelligence Coach to help clients create clear and authentic goals in alignment with personal values, develop sustainable success strategies, and enhance social- and self-awareness to improve communication skills and relationships at work.
I have worked with 100s of individuals and helped them free themselves from previous trauma, inner and outer conflict, and limiting self-perceptions to gain more clarity and a sense of stability and purpose to increase resilience, confidence and wellbeing in relationships both at home and at work. I am currently supporting forumZFD, Forum Civil Peace Service, as a member of their Coaching Pool:
